Java Uploader

350 Pages Help logo
You need to upload files from your computer to your File Manager so that they can be used on your webpages. There are two versions of the uploader available - the Java uploader and the non-java uploader. This help is for the Java uploader. For more information on the non-java Uploader, please click here

Click to zoomYou will need to have Java installed on your computer to use this. We recommend the use of this uploader when you have several images or a large bulk of files because it has the benefit that you can upload up to 30 files at a time and it resizes your images upon upload to your pecification, making them ready for your webpages, so you will not have to work with the huge size files as generated by most digital cameras. You can upload any type of file including jpg, gif, png. When the uploader opens you will be given a prompt to confirm that you wish to run the editor on your computer. Because the uploader can resize images before it uploads them, it needs to perform this work on your computer - this prompt merely confirms that you wish to allow the uploader access to your computer to do this. Click to confirm that you wish to do this, otherwise you can cancel and use the non-java uploader.

Click to zoomYou can add files to the uploader by dragging and dropping one or more files from a folder on your computer into the Uploader window, up to the maximum of 30 images. If the file is an image, you will see the image appear as a preview below the table. To change the filename or add the descriptive tags and a caption simply double click in the entry area. Descriptive tags must be separated by commas, for example "australia,Sydney, opera”. You can specify the size of this file for upload by choosing the appropriate option from the Size buttons. The image size sets the size of the image as it will appear at its full size so when using thumbnails it will be the large image that is displayed after the thumbnail is clicked.

The rules for sizing are as follows:
Small: A small image will be re-sized to 400 pixels wide. This is recommended when you intend to have 2 or more images across a webpage.
Medium: A medium image will be re-sized to 600 pixels wide. This is recommended if you wish to have a gallery of thumbnail images that open into a slideshow when clicked by your visitors
Large: A large image will be re-sized to 800 pixels wide.
X-Large: An x-large image will be re-sized to 1000 pixels wide. This is recommended if you intend to have a webpage with just the one image on it.

Choosing 'original' will upload the image without changing the size but note that many digital cameras generate images of between 2 and 4 MB which is too large to work with when creating webpages. If you wish to revert to the original size then select Reset size. When you are happy with your selection, click on the Upload button to Upload these files to your 350pages File Manager. If you are not happy and you do not wish to proceed then select the cancel. Depending upon the number of images you are uploading, it may take a few minutes.

Tip

If you wish to edit many files at once, you can do so by holding down Ctrl and clicking the files that you would like to edit to highlight them, or by holding down shift and clicking to select every file in the list.

Tip

If you wish to remove a specific file from the uploader, click to select it and then select the Remove button.
