Upload
You can upload files from your computer to your File Manager so that they can be used on your webpages. There are two versions of the uploader available.
You will need to have Java installed on your computer to use this. We recommend the use of this uploader because it has the benefit that it resizes your file upon upload, ready for your webpages, so you will not have to work with the huge size files as generated by most digital cameras. You can upload any type of file, eg jpg, gif, png
When the editor first starts, you will be given a prompt to confirm that you wish to run the editor on your computer. Because the uploader can resize images before it uploads them, it needs to perform this work on your computer - this prompt merely confirms that you wish to allow the uploader access to your computer to do this. Click to confirm that you wish to do this, otherwise you can cancel and use the basic uploader.
You can add files to the uploader in two ways - using the Browse option or drag and drop. Click on the Browse button and find the required file on your computer from the window that appears. Click on the file and you will see the file added to the table in the uploader, detailing its name, file size and current image size. Alternatively, you can also drag and drop one or more files from a folder on your computer, upto the maximum number shown on the uploader. If the file is an image, you will see the image appear as a preview below the table. To change the filename or add the descriptive tags and a caption simply double click in the entry area. Descriptive tags (must be separated by commas, for example "australia,Sydney, opera”.
You can specify the size of this file for upload by choosing the appropriate option from the Size button. The image size sets the size of the image as it will appear at its full size so when using thumbnails it will be the large image that is displayed after the thumbnail is clicked.
The rules for sizing is as follows:
Small- A small image will be re-sized to 400 pixels wide. This is recommended when you intend to have 2 or more images across a webpage.
Medium- A medium image will be re-sized to 600 pixels wide.
Large- A large image will be re-sized to 800 pixels wide.
X-Large- An x-large image will be re-sized to 1000 pixels wide. This is recommended if you intend to have a webpage with just the one image on it.
Choosing 'original' will upload the image without changing the size but note that many digital cameras generate images of between 2 and 4 MB which is too large to work with when creating webpages.
If you wish to revert to the original size then select Reset size.
If you wish to edit many files at once, you can do so by holding down Ctrl and clicking the files that you would like to edit to highlight them, or by holding down shift and clicking to select every file in the list.
If you wish to remove a specific file from the uploader, then ensure that file is selected by clicking on it in the menu, and then select the Remove button.
When you are happy with your selection, click on the Upload button to Upload these files to your 350pages File Manager. If you are not happy and you do not wish to proceed then select the cancel.
